Martina brought this 2026 Toyota Camry to the shop back in January, and it was about as new as a car can be. The new body style, dark blue paint that reads almost black until the sun hits the metallic flake, blacked-out wheels and trim. When a car shows up that fresh, some people wonder if there is even anything for me to do. There is, and honestly this is the best possible time to do it.
Why Coat a Brand-New Car
New paint does not stay new on its own, especially not here. A daily driver in Panama City lives in salt air, brutal sun, love bugs, and afternoon storms that leave water spots baked on by the next morning. A ceramic coating puts a hard, slick layer over the clear coat before any of that gets a chance to dig in. Coating a car while the paint is still essentially perfect means you are locking in showroom condition instead of trying to win it back years later with heavy correction. It is the difference between protecting the finish and rescuing it.
The Work
Even a new car does not get coated straight off the street. The Camry got a careful hand wash and a full decontamination first, then a one-step polish over the whole car. Dealer lots are not gentle on paint, and brand-new cars almost always carry light wash marks and haze from the prep work they get before delivery. A single polishing step is usually all a new car needs to get the surface truly flawless, where an older car would need the full paint correction treatment. Once the paint was clean and clear, I wiped the panels down to strip any polishing oils and applied the ceramic coating to the whole car. Every job here is done by me personally, start to finish.
The Result
Dark blue metallic might be the best color to see a coating on. In the shade the car looks like a deep piece of black glass, and in the sunlight the flake lights up and sparkles through the gloss. The reflections in the hood and doors are sharp enough to read the clouds in. And past the looks, that paint now has real protection for Florida life. Water beads up and rolls off, bugs and bird droppings release instead of etching in, and the sun that cooks bare clear coat all summer long has a sacrificial layer to fight through first. Coming out of another long Panama City summer, that is exactly the protection a new daily driver needs, and washes take half the time it would otherwise.
