Whakym found us through one of our detailing ads on Facebook and filled out the quote quiz on a Tuesday afternoon at the end of June. Complete detail, a large SUV, 2021 or newer, somewhere between 50,000 and 120,000 miles, young kids riding in it, and the timeline was as soon as possible. The SUV was a grey 2021 Kia Telluride, which is about as popular a family hauler as you will find around Panama City right now.
I called right away and we had it booked in under half an hour. The slot that worked best was Saturday, July 4 at 2 in the afternoon. That made it the second car I detailed on the Fourth that year, which is honestly how I like to spend a holiday.
Garage Kept Still Gets Dirty
One answer on the quiz stood out. The Telluride lives in a garage. That is a big deal here, because a garage keeps the Florida sun, the pollen and the bird drops off the paint. But a garage does nothing for the inside of a car that hauls young kids around. Snacks, juice, sand from the beach, shoes kicked against the seat backs. A three row SUV gives all of that a lot more room to spread out.
The outside still collects plenty just from being driven. It pulled into the driveway a little before 2 looking like what it is, a car that gets used every day by a busy family. Road film on the paint, brake dust on the wheels, and an interior that had been doing a lot of school runs and beach trips.
The Work
Inside, every row got vacuumed and cleaned top to bottom. Carpet, seats, door panels, cup holders, the console and all the little spots where crumbs like to hide between the seats. With kids in the car those spots fill up fast, and they are the first thing a parent notices when they climb back in.
Outside, the Telluride got a careful hand wash in the garage. The black wheels and tires got cleaned up and the tires dressed, which makes a big difference on a dark wheel like this one. If you want to see exactly what each package covers, the car detailing page lays it all out.
The Result
It was finished a little after 7 that evening, right as people were getting ready for fireworks. Under the hex lights the grey paint was throwing back every shape on the ceiling, and the close shot of the rear quarter shows the hex pattern reflecting right off the door. That wheel photo is my favorite from this one. Clean black spokes and a dressed tire.
Now that it is October and fall is here in Panama City, it is a great time to reset a family car. Beach season is winding down, so the sand you get out now stays out, and the fall love bug flight is about to hit every front bumper on the road.
