Charles brought this 2018 Dodge Ram in on the first of June, right as the Panama City summer was kicking off. Black paint, black wheels, black leather inside. That combination looks mean when it is clean and shows every speck of dust, pollen, and water spotting when it is not. He booked a full interior and exterior detail, dropped it off at the garage that afternoon, and had it back the next day.
Why a Truck Needs More Than a Wash
A truck around here lives a harder life than most cars. It sits outside, it goes to the beach and the boat ramp, it hauls whatever needs hauling, and the cab turns into a second office with sand tracked in on the floor. Then the weather piles on. Pollen in the spring, salt air and sand all summer, and afternoon storms that leave water spots baked into the paint by morning. A drive-through wash knocks the loose dirt off, but it does nothing about the film bonded to the clear coat, the grit worked into the carpet, or leather that is slowly drying out under the Florida sun. That is what a full interior and exterior detail is for. It is a reset, not a rinse.
The Work
Outside first. The Ram got a foam pre-wash to lift the loose grime, then a proper two bucket hand wash, with the wheels, tires, and wheel wells scrubbed separately so none of that brake dust ended up back on the paint. After that came a decontamination step to pull out the bonded contamination a wash leaves behind, which is the difference between paint that looks clean and paint that actually feels smooth. Hand dried, tires dressed, glass cleaned inside and out.
Then the cabin. Every inch got vacuumed, with compressed air blowing the sand and crumbs out of the seat tracks and vents where a vacuum alone will not reach. All the hard surfaces got wiped down and protected, the leather seats got cleaned and conditioned so they stay soft instead of cracking, and the door jambs got the same attention as the rest of the truck. Every job here is done by me personally, start to finish, in a climate controlled garage rather than a parking lot.
The Result
Under the hex lights the black paint went from hazy to a straight mirror. You can count the light panels in the hood, and the black wheels came back looking as dark as the paint. Inside, the leather had its color and feel back, the dash and door panels were clean without being greasy, and it smelled like a truck again instead of whatever had been riding around in there since spring. That is the goal every time. Not a truck that looks good for a day, but one that feels the way it did when the owner first got it.
September in Panama City is still full summer.
