Layra dropped this 2023 Hyundai Elantra off on a Friday evening in the middle of June, and it was the first car in the garage Saturday morning. Not even three years old and already pushing 45,000 miles, wearing Massachusetts plates in Panama City, so this is a car that gets driven and does not get parked. She booked a full interior and exterior detail. Nothing fancy and no coating, just the whole car reset inside and out.
Why a Light Interior Needs the Full Treatment
This Elantra has the light grey leather with the grey cloth door inserts, and light interiors cut both ways. They look great and they keep the cabin cooler in the Florida sun, but every bit of dye that rubs off a pair of jeans, every smudge on a door pull, and every bit of dust settling into the seat perforations shows. On a car doing this kind of mileage, the inside collects grit at the same pace the outside does, and after a couple of years the whole cabin just reads a shade darker than it should. You stop noticing it until the day it is clean again. A full detail is built for exactly that: the inside and the outside done in one visit, so the car comes back feeling like one car again instead of a clean outside on a tired inside.
The Work
Outside first. A foam pre-wash to lift the loose dirt, a two bucket hand wash, the wheels and tires done separately with their own brushes, then a decontamination on the paint to pull off the bonded road film that a regular wash leaves behind. That step is what gets the paint slick to the touch again, and it is what makes a grey car pop under the lights instead of looking flat. Then it got dried and finished by hand.
Inside, the mats came out and everything got vacuumed, seat tracks and under the seats included. The leather got cleaned, the door panels and console wiped down and dressed, and the carpets and mats deep cleaned so the Elantra badge on the driver mat was actually readable again. Every job here is done by me personally, in a climate controlled garage rather than a driveway.
The Result
Under the hex lights the hood and roof threw clean, sharp reflections, and the front end looked like it had just rolled off the lot. Inside, the grey leather went back to actually being grey, the carpets were dark and even, and the whole cabin felt fresh. For a car with this many miles on it in this short a time, that is the reset it needed.
