Deedee reached out on a Saturday at the end of June after seeing one of our ads. She has a white 2021 Mercedes GLS450, three rows of seats, young kids riding in the back and a spot outside where it gets parked every day. She wanted the complete detail, inside and out, as soon as we could fit her in. We talked on the phone that same morning and she brought it in on Wednesday, July 1.
Why a Family SUV Needs More Than a Wash
The GLS is a big, comfortable family hauler, and this one has a cream leather interior. Light leather looks great when it is clean, but it shows everything. Kids climbing in and out with snacks, sunscreen and beach sand leave their mark on the seats and the trim, and the dark carpet catches every crumb that falls. A car wash never touches any of that. It all just keeps building up until somebody gets in there with the right tools.
When it rolled into the garage the back seats had crumbs and bits of trash on the carpet, the leather had that grey film light seats pick up from daily use, and the cup holders in the back were sticky with old drinks. Pretty normal for a family car in Panama City in the summer, and exactly what a full detail is for.
The good news with a vehicle like this is that it is only a few years old and the leather was still in good shape underneath. Getting the dirt off now, before it has years to grind into the seats, is what keeps a light interior looking new for the long haul.
The Work
Inside, I started from the back and worked forward. Every row got vacuumed, including under and between the seats where the crumbs hide. The cream leather got cleaned with a soft brush and wiped down so the film came off without scrubbing the finish. The cup holders, door panels, side trim and center console all got cleaned out by hand, front to back.
Outside, the GLS got a full wash, and the wheels and tires were cleaned. It was in the garage most of the day, from the morning drop off to the final photos that evening. If you want to see everything that goes into it, our detailing page breaks down each package.
The Result
The photo of the rear trim panel is my favorite from this job. Before, the bottom cup holder was full of little bits of trash and sticky residue. After, it is back to clean cream plastic that matches the seats. The back seats went from crumbs and a dull film to bright leather and clean carpet, and the white paint outside was glossy under the hex lights.
It is early October as I write this. Fall is here in Panama City, the fall love bugs are out on the highways and school, sports and weekend trips mean the family car is getting used harder than ever.
