Truck Detail on a 2021 Ford F-150 in Panama City, FL

Ronnie filled out the quote form on a Saturday afternoon at the end of June and checked the box that said as soon as possible. He meant it. We talked, the bay was open, and by 7:30 that same evening his grey 2021 F-150 was rolling into the garage. That does not happen every day, but when the schedule has room I would rather get a truck in tonight than make someone wait a week for no reason.

Where a Truck Actually Gets Dirty

This F-150 lives outside and has somewhere between 50,000 and 120,000 miles on it, and it wears all-terrain tires. That combination tells you where the dirt is going to be before you even walk around it. From the driveway it looked like a grey truck that needed a wash. Get down low with a light and it is a different story. The inner fender liners were packed with a dried film of road grime, the rocker panel under the doors was streaked white with splash, and the exhaust tip had gone from black to a dull, crusty grey.

That is normal for a truck in Panama City. Afternoon storms leave puddles on every back road, those big tread blocks throw water and sand straight up into the wheel wells, and then the sun bakes it on. A drive-through wash hits the paint and the glass and never touches any of it. So the lower third of the truck just keeps getting worse, a layer at a time, until one day you notice it and it has been there since spring.

The Work

On a truck I start at the bottom, because that is where the heaviest dirt lives and you do not want it running down onto panels you already cleaned. The wheel wells got scrubbed out liner by liner until the grey plastic was grey again instead of tan. The tires got scrubbed until the old browned-out rubber was gone, then dressed so they finish a clean dark black. The wheels were cleaned, and the running boards and rocker panels got worked by hand, since that is where the splash from the front tires lands every single time it rains.

The exhaust tip is a small thing that makes a big difference. Once it is black and shiny again, the whole back of the truck looks newer. The same goes for the lower rocker. You can see both in the photo below, same spot, before and after, no editing. If you want to see how the rest of a detail comes together, our detailing page walks through what each package covers.

The Result

By a little before eleven that night the F-150 was sitting under the hex lights looking the way a grey truck is supposed to look, one even color from the roof down to the running boards, with dark tires and clean wells framing the wheels. It came in that evening and it was finished that same night.

It is the end of September in Panama City now, the first week of fall, and trucks are still paying for the summer. Love bugs are out on the highways, hurricane season has two more months to go, and every storm leaves more grit up under the fenders. If your truck looks fine from the driveway but you have not looked at the wheel wells in a while, go take a look, then check out our truck and SUV detailing and give me a call. Every job here is done by me personally, in a climate controlled garage, one vehicle at a time.
